Did you know that Affordable Shade Patio Cover doesn’t just offer fantastic patio covers, gazebos, arbors, and pergolas? We also provide hand-crafted palapas to add life and shade to your backyard.
If you have a flair for outdoor entertaining, consider a palapa for your home. In our Texas heat and humidity, you can bring the tropics to your backyard with a tiki hut to share frozen drinks or Mexican beer with friends and family. Consider how inviting your backyard pool will look surrounded by a thatched roof and beautifully carved, wooden posts. Or how relaxing it could be to string up a hammock and stare into the umbrella of cedar and palm fronds.
If you have a lake house or home on the bay, we can turn your dock into a palapa as well. Take a stroll across a solid wood boardwalk, ending in a beautifully crafted cabana, inviting you to sit quietly and fish or watch the sunset over the water. We’d be happy to build in a workspace for cleaning the day’s catch.
Palapas aren’t just for homeowners, though. If you have a business, such as a restaurant, bar, apartment complex or planned community, our palapas will add a charming element to your atmosphere.
What is a Palapa?

A palapa is an outdoor structure providing shade and seating for entertainment. It looks like a tiki hut giving your space a tropical island vibe. You’ll first notice the carved wooden posts supporting a thatched roof. Walk inside, and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a Mexican beach cabana.
Palapas offer a space to set up an outdoor kitchen with a built-in workspace and bars. You can even build tables around the posts for guests to stand and put down drinks and food. Have us create a matching built-in bar for mixing a tropical cocktail while you grill steak and shrimp. Don’t worry about storage either, because we can craft plenty of cabinets and shelves to stash glasses, plates and kitchen tools.
Your kids will love pretending to be pirates on a tiki hut-style playground with swings, slides, and ropes to climb. And you can enjoy the gentle sway of a wood-hewn porch swing under the shade of the grass roof. If you have a hot tub, a palapa is an excellent way to add extra privacy and ambiance while you relax.
As a business owner who is considering an outdoor space for your guests, a palapa will invite them to come outside and stay longer. We can provide built-in tables and matching chairs or bar stools all with the tropical atmosphere you’re looking for. If you’d like a patio bar, check out our built-in tiki bars. We can customize the space with Mexican tiles, concrete or wood and provide open shelving to display the different drinks you offer.
Whether you’re a business owner or private homeowner, check out our outdoor showers and bathrooms. These cabanas are a great idea for keeping wet feet from walking through indoor spaces after being outside at the pool or lake. They are especially convenient for changing areas for guests.
Why Affordable Shade Palapas?

Many other companies build their cabanas from pine wood. While pine is healthy, it’s also very porous, allowing for moisture, wood rot and bugs to eat away at it. In this hot and humid Texas climate, we prefer to build our palapas from cedar wood, which is considerably more resistant to humidity, bugs, and other elements.
We offer hand-carved posts by our family of artisans with over 25 years of experience. If you’d like to add extra color and personality to your palapa, we’d be happy to carve and paint a traditional tiki mask or other characters. We can pay homage to your favorite sports team or bring the colors of the ocean home to you in the form of bar stools, decorative posts, wooden coolers or beach chairs.
Our company and artisans have decades of experience. No matter how small or large your vision, we can create it for you. Let us know how we can customize our palapas to fit the needs of your home or business.
